Some of my first work at Simcic Architecture involved the design of this spiral stair, as well as various other custom steel details for this residential renovation.
Arriving at Simicic architecture when this renovation was already in the construction phase, I was entrusted with a series of custom steel details to finish some unresolved aspects of the design. The custom spiral stair was my first project at the firm and required a careful balance of the clients wishes, code concerns, and technical limitations, including discussions with the steel manufacturer and a visit to the steel shop to inspect the partially constructed stair for compliance with our design. Other design work on this project involved resolving a stair around complex preexisting conditions, custom designs for steel railings, chimney caps, and a paneled glass door, and millwork drawings.
